That makes SIGGRAPH 2012, which began on Sunday, August 5, 2012, in Los Angeles, CA a perfect venue to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Sony Pictures Imageworks (SPI) and the 10th anniversary of Sony Pictures Animation (SPA). In celebration SPI and SPA are offering attendees of the SIGGRAPH 2012 Exhibition special behind-the-scenes presentation featuring their renowned stable of effects and animation talent from blockbuster hits Men in Black 3, The Amazing Spider-Man and the upcoming Hotel Transylvania. And for those who dream about working on such projects, Sony Pictures Imageworks Recruitment will have a major presence at the SIGGRAPH job fair.

Getting the party started in Hall K at 9 a.m.? on 7 August, Sony Pictures Animation will explore the dazzling art, unique animation style and technical achievements of Hotel Transylvania. Audience members will be treated to an advance look at the monster comedy from Director Genndy Tartakovsky, Animation Supervisor James Crossley and VFX Supervisor Daniel Kramer. Following the presentation, Tartakovsky will be signing limited edition Hotel Transylvania posters in Hall H beginning at 11 a.m.
Sony Pictures Animation is celebrating their 10th anniversary in 2012 with a robust slate of films including the highly anticipated Hotel Transylvania in September and next summer?s The Smurfs 2. Looking even farther ahead, potentially preternatural films such as The Familiars and Kazorn and the Unicorn have already started assembling production crews.

Sony Pictures Imageworks takes over Hall K at 10:45 a.m. on 7 August with a behind-the-scenes look at the hit film Men in Black 3, including the diverse, richly detailed array of characters and environments. VFX Supervisor Jay Redd, Digital Effects Supervisor Ken Hahn, Animation supervisor Spencer cook and CG Supervisor Darren Lurie will present a guided tour back to 1969 when SPI visual effects artists digitally recreated everything from the historic Apollo 11 rocket launch and New York?s Shea Stadium to a chronology shifting time jump and an action-packed chase through the streets of Brooklyn?not to mention a galaxy of extraordinary alien characters.
After lunch Sony Pictures Imageworks picks things up with the untold story of The Amazing Spider-Man at 2 p.m. in Hall K. SPI?s VFZ team established a visual style for the blockbuster hit film that naturally blends cutting edge live-action stunt work, extensive digital enhancements and CG character animation. Senior VFX supervisor Jerome Chen, Digital Effects Supervisor David Smith, animation Supervisor Randy Cook, Additional Animation? Supervisor David Schaub and Senior CG Supervisor John Haley will take audience members into this gritty, urban world for an inside look at this amazing film.
Sony Pictures Imageworks is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2012. The Academy Award-winning visual effects and animation unit of Sony Pictures Digital production are recognized throughout the industry for their live action visual effects, dynamic creature and character animation, all-CG animation and stereoscopic 3D imagery. Current projects include Oz the Great and Powerful (3D), The Smurfs 2 (3D) and Hotel Transylvania (3D).
In addition, SPI and SPA will be represented in other areas of the SIGGRAPH 2012 conference with exclusive never-before-seen content in the Electronic Theater and Animation Daytime Selects. On 7 August, SPI?s Jeremy Selen will be presenting an all day course on Cinematic Color and Adam Martinez will present a practical guide to using Open Shading Language as part of the Practical Physical-based Shading in the Film and Game production course.
