Border Agent Fatally Shoots California Woman

A Border Patrol agent fatally shot a 32-year-old mother of five Friday in suburban San Diego as he rode on the hood of her car after she ran into him, authorities and family members said.

The agent fired after being driven several hundred yards on the hood, Chula Vista police Capt. Gary Wedge told The Associated Press. The woman was later identified in a police statement as Valeria Alvarado.

The shooting occurred about five miles north of the Mexican border as plainclothes agents were looking to serve a felony warrant in the area to someone other than Alvarado, Border Patrol Deputy Chief Rodney Scott told U-T San Diego.

Scott said the agent was stuck atop the car as Alvarado drove.

"Fearing for his life, he discharged his weapon to get the vehicle to stop," Scott said. No other agents fired.

Alvarado was declared dead at the scene, and the agent was taken to a hospital. His injuries were not clear.

After talking to investigators, family members including her husband and cousin told U-T San Diego that Alvarado was a housewife and mother of five children ranging from ages 3 to 17 who went by the name Monique.

"I love her to the fullest. That's my heart," husband Gilbert Alvarado said. "Where's the evidence my wife threatened a trained officer? I want justice."

Family members said Valeria Alvarado grew up in Chula Vista where the shooting took place but had been living about five miles away in the Southcrest neighborhood of San Diego, and they did not know why she was in her former hometown.

Hector Salazar, one of several neighbors who witnessed the incident, said he saw a man in civilian clothes on the hood of a black car aiming a gun at the windshield.

Salazar told U-T San Diego the man started pulling the trigger, and he heard about five shots. Moments later, other plainclothes agents approached the car, he said.

The person named in the warrant the agents were serving was not apprehended, Scott said.

The FBI and Chula Vista police are investigating.

Service: South Africa

We have a number of links in South Africa and next October one of our key projects will be based at Umzingisi School in Port Elizabeth. The Stanley boys have forged strong links with this community over a number of years and we are now opening up the opportunity for all doing Junior Social Apprentice. Umzingisi is a school of sporting excellence so getting actively involved is a must. There will also be a number of projects running in local townships and schools including work at a soup kitchen.

The challenge will be in coaching, teaching and leadership and to develop an understanding of new cultures. Planning to be done will include sourcing flights, finding out about activities, risk assessments and significant fundraising. Costs will be in the region of ?1500 per pupil; however, this will be dependent on securing flights early. Fundraising target will be to secure 30-40 long term sponsors per group each willing to make a regular charitable donation.?

'Bad Piggies' snort their way to the top ?but can they stay there ...

After playing second fiddle to the Angry Birds for the last three years, the green pigs have snorted their way to the top of the gaming charts ?at least on Day One of its release.

?

?

"What Rovio has proven with Amazing Alex ? and now with Bad Piggies ? is that it has the network power to get a game to No. 1 on the first day, a skill any mobile game developer would covet. But whether that alone is worth as much as $9 billion, it?s hard to know," it said, referring to the games the Finnish game maker released after Angry Birds in December 2009.

?

Rovio's Angry Birds game was so massively popular it spawned several versions of Angry Birds, including Angry Birds Space. Rovio recently released a new game, Amazing Alex.

?

In the case of "Bad Piggies," AllThingsD said the new 99-cent Angry Birds spinoff game zoomed to the top of the iPhone and iPad paid charts in the United States.

?

Staying on top?

?

But AllThingsD noted that in the case of Amazing Alex, Rovio's first game outside the Angry Birds universe, it initially topped of the charts in 54 countries but failed to stay in top position.

?

"After less than two months, Amazing Alex ranked as the 73rd most-popular paid app worldwide," it noted.

?

If Rovio scores a hit on app stores, AllThingsD said this would mean a boost for its possible stock market flotation in 2013.

?

Some analysts put its market value at between $6 billion and $9 billion, nearly on par with phone maker Nokia, it added.

?

Bad Piggies

?

The game starts with the Bad Piggies having found a map to the eggs, but the map is in pieces all over Piggy Island.

?

King Pig orders his minions to recover the map wherever it is, even from the top of a mountain or the bottom of a cave!

?

Pigs will have to turn objects like umbrellas, wings, bottle rockets, balloons, and engines into the "ultimate flying machine."

?

Rovio said the game has more than 60 levels and free updates.?? TJD, GMA News

A rare apology in the Middle East. Cherish it.

Libyan leader Megarif apologizes to the world and the US for past and current actions. With so much invective and violence in the Middle East, the region needs the healing power of such humility and contrition.

By the Monitor's Editorial Board / September 28, 2012

Libya's interim President Mohammed el-Megarif prepares to address the United Nations General Assembly Sept. 27. He offered an apology for the acts of the former regime of Muammar Qaddafi.

Reuters

With Iran?s president speaking of ?uncivilized Zionists? and the Israeli prime minister calling Iran ?the most dangerous country in the world,? it may seem odd for one Middle East leader to stand before the United Nations this week and apologize for his country?s past violence.

' + google_ads[0].line2 + '
' + google_ads[0].line3 + '

'; } else if (google_ads.length > 1) { ad_unit += ''; } } document.getElementById("ad_unit").innerHTML += ad_unit; google_adnum += google_ads.length; return; } var google_adnum = 0; google_ad_client = "pub-6743622525202572"; google_ad_output = 'js'; google_max_num_ads = '1'; google_feedback = "on"; google_ad_type = "text"; google_adtest = "on"; google_image_size = '230x105'; google_skip = '0'; // -->

Yet that is what Mohammed el-Megarif, Libya?s interim president, did on Thursday.

He actually gave two apologies on behalf of all Libyans for the actions of Muammar Qaddafi. One was for the late leader?s disrespect toward the UN Charter on rights. The other was for ?all the harm, all the crimes committed by that despot against so many innocents ... for the extortion and terrorism he meted on so many states.?

Just days earlier, Mr. Megarif also apologized personally to US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Sept. 12 attack in Benghazi that killed four American diplomats. (Details of that assault remain unclear.)

And perhaps in a sign of a trend in the Middle East, Yemen?s president, Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, also apologized ? for an attack by a crowd on the US embassy over the anti-Muslim video posted on YouTube.

For Americans, who by now have seen waves of apologies from public figures like Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, and Tiger Woods, it may be easy to overlook this unusual contrition in one of the world?s toughest neighborhoods. Yet humility, vulnerability, and making amends is just what the Middle East needs to deal with its intense, long-lasting conflicts.

If apologies are heartfelt, they can have real healing power. They bring trust and honesty to a relationship, even if they are not made by the perpetrator but simply on behalf of a country or institution.

They can help prevent a repeat of an offense. And they are better still if they also come with some restorative justice. Libya?s leader, for example, promises to cooperate with the United States in bringing the embassy attackers to justice.

Postwar Germany set a high standard for the world in its apologies for Nazi atrocities. In 1970, German Chancellor Willy Brandt dropped to his knees during a visit to a memorial for Polish Jews killed during the Warsaw Ghetto uprising of 1943.

Many US presidents, from Dwight Eisenhower to George W. Bush, have apologized for current or past acts by the government. In the 2012 presidential campaign, Mitt Romney has often accused President Obama of apologizing for past US deeds, mainly in the Middle East. (Mr. Romney?s 2010 book is titled ?No Apology: The Case for American Greatness.?)

While the word ?apologize? or ?sorry? wasn?t used by Mr. Obama in cases cited by Romney, the president has criticized the actions of his predecessor before foreign audiences, claiming they were not representative of American values.

Such domestic disputes over values may make Americans less sensitive to hearing important apologies like those of Libya?s Megarif. He even stressed his country?s ?solidarity? with the US and that Libya?s future will be ?chartered by people like Chris Stevens [the slain ambassador], not by people like his killers.?

Today?s apology culture in the US can sometimes be overdone. And detecting sincerity in a public figure?s utterance of ?sorry? isn?t always easy. Yet Americans seem past the time when they will follow the advice of actor John Wayne who, in a 1949 western movie, said: ?Never apologize and never explain ? it?s a sign of weakness.?

So, thank you, Libya. Apology accepted. Let a new day dawn.

Pastors Protest Hobby Lobby Birth Control Fight In Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY ? Christian activists attempted Thursday to deliver a petition to Hobby Lobby criticizing its challenge to a portion of the new federal health care law, but guards at the company's headquarters turned them away.

"I thought they'd let me drop off the package," said the Rev. Lance Schmitz, pastor of the Capitol Hill Church of the Nazarene in Oklahoma City.

Schmitz said more than 80,000 people had signed copies of a petition circulated nationwide by Faithful America, an online Christian group, and UltraViolet, which promotes women's rights. Schmitz said he intends to mail the petition to the company.

Lawyers representing Hobby Lobby this month sued the federal government claiming it should not be forced to provide workers with health insurance that covers the morning-after and week-after pills. Some say the drug's ability to prevent a fertilized egg from implanting in a woman's womb is tantamount to abortion.

Hobby Lobby operates 500 arts and crafts stores in 41 states. Its Christian owners allege in the lawsuit that providing coverage for certain medications violates their "deeply held religious beliefs."

An attorney for the company, Kyle Duncan, said the Green family, which owns Hobby Lobby, respects the religious convictions of others, "including those who do not agree with them."

"All they are asking is for the government to give them the same respect by not forcing them to violate their religious beliefs," Duncan said.

But Schmitz and spokespersons for the Christian groups said the drugs are contraceptives and that women have a right to make their own medical decisions.

"Access to contraceptive care is a very good thing," Schmitz said. "This isn't about abortion. These pills do not cause abortion. It's contraception."

Michael Sharrard, spokesman for Faithful America, said a large part of his group's efforts "is to try to counter extremists" and that it represents the "mainstream majority."

"It's a woman's personal decision on what kind of birth control to use," said Cat Barr, campaign director for UltraViolet. "Hobby Lobby is out of touch with mainstream Americans. It's not their role to be dictating medical decisions."

The petitions accuse Hobby Lobby's owners of using their Christian faith as an excuse to obstruct health care reform and deny women access to birth control. Petitioners vow to not shop at Hobby Lobby until the lawsuit, filed on Sept. 12 in U.S. District Court in Oklahoma City, is dismissed.

Duncan denied accusations that the company is attempting to block women's access to birth control.

"It's not true," Duncan said. "Hobby Lobby covers the vast majority of contraceptives, will continue to do so.

"The only people's rights that are being trampled on here are the Green family and the companies they operate," he said.

Duncan said Hobby Lobby provides generous health care benefits to its employees, including birth control. But the government is trying to force the company cover two specific drugs that the company's owners believe can cause early abortions.

"This is illegal and unconstitutional," he said.

The company claims that failure to provide the drugs in the company's health insurance plan could lead to fines of up to $1.3 million a day.

Duncan said the federal government's birth control guide states that drugs like the morning-after pill and the week-after pill can prevent implantation of a fertilized egg in the womb.

"Millions of Americans would consider that an early abortion," he said. "What the petitioners need to hear immediately is that the government cannot use healthcare reform as an excuse for trampling on religious rights."

Edmonds man realizes dream of starting online radio station | My ...

Edmonds man realizes dream of starting online radio station

Jet City Stream CEO Michael Raley outside the studio.

In June 2011, Edmonds resident Michael Raley walked away from a successful career in radio advertising, with one mission in mind: to build a radio station of his own.

But Raley wasn?t looking to start just any station. He was tired of commercial radio?s lack of creativity ? both in terms of the music it played and the advertising it ran. He wanted a station that supported and celebrated local music, musicians and businesses. And he wanted to make the broadcasts available on a digital platform.

This week, Raley?s vision become a reality with the official launch of Jet City Stream. The station?s focus is on local music, which includes finding and featuring local bands.? Since April, when the station first went ?on the air? from its headquarters in Seattle?s Georgetown neighborhood, Jet City staff have been working to build their brand at various community music events, participating in the Capitol Hill Block Party, Bumbershoot and the Crooked Chinook Music Festival, among others. Jet City has also hosted several smaller events at its studio location inside the former Rainier Brewery-turned-Tully?s-Coffee headquarters on Airport Way South.

The most important room in the Jet City studio suite is probably the server room, complete with a 10.5 mm fiber optic cable ? ?the biggest you can get,? Raley said. ?We wanted to push the audio because EQ (equalization) on the Internet is average at best. So what we did was we created two streams for one fully-equalized path. When you listen to it online, it balances out highs and lows. You can hear total separation in what we do. ?

In addition, the station has a functional air studio where they have held Jet City Stream Sessions with local bands including Reignwolf, Walking Papers, Father John Misty and Fly Moon Royalty.

The station also plans to feature famous names as they come through the Puget Sound region for a concert. ?Our goal is to get those bands to come down to the station, do an acoustic or electric set with us and leave us with those gems ? and then we can play those songs for eternity because they were recorded with us,? Raley said.

He envisions eventually expanding the concept to 25 cities nationwide, creating an online network of Internet stations, each with the same focus on local music and community events.

Part of what drives the 50-year-old Raley is his memories of just how good radio used to be during his childhood and teen years, when a station would play a diverse mix? of music ? everything from Glen Campbell and Elvis Presley to Roberta Flack and Queen.? Today, Raley noted, ?there are five major (music) labels and they control 50 major bands, so they fund those bands and that?s it.? As a result, many great bands and their music are left in the collective dust.

Raley with his content director, Shawn Stewart, formerly of The Mountain.

?We just wanted to take the great things radio did and combine it with today?s technology of music discovery,? he said.

Most people in the Internet radio business are ?either doing it in their basement in some bad audio way or they are doing Pandora style, which is not radio ? it?s just an iPod online where you can click a song,? Raley said. ?It?s not radio DJs. It doesn?t have localism.?

Raley himself is a former Edmonds restaurant manager ? he worked at Anthony?s Home Port from 1985-1995? who has been in love with music since he started playing guitar in a rock band at age 16.

After encouragement from an acquaintance, he moved into radio sales at age 37, starting with KISS-FM and eventually ending up in Los Angeles before moving back to Edmonds and a sales job with Seattle-based Clear Channel.

However, he grew tired of the type of advertising that was being aired and added that he ?felt that the best music in the world wasn?t getting played on the radio,? due to what he called ?the corporate rule of record labels.?

As he began building his new station, Raley?s top two priorities were his staff? ? ?finding the best people in Seattle? ?? and also securing what he described as ?an iconic location: a place where a band could bring their record down and see the DJs and meet them.?

DJ Marco Collins, formerly of 107.7 ?The End,? and Stewart in the studio.

His success so far is reflected in both the choice of the station?s home ? the hip yet comfortable former Rainier Brewery office suite? ? and his equally impressive hires: Shawn Stewart of 103.7 The Mountain fame is Jet City Stream?s content director and is on the air fron 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Marco Collins, who broadcasts from 3-7 p.m., is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and best known as the DJ and Music Director at Seattle?s 107.7? ?The End? during the 1990?s grunge era. Running the station?s marketing is Joe Hammill, former ?The End? promotions director.? And Jet City?s vice president of programming is Becky Brenner, who was program director at KMPS for 16 years.

Pat O?Day shown with Jimi Hendrix in the 1960s.

The well-known names continue as part of this week?s official Jet City Stream launch. On Friday, Collins will be joined by Seattle radio legend Pat O?Day, who will co-host the Top 20 Seattle Songs, starting at 3 p.m. According to Raley, the combination was a natural fit: The two personalities have made a name for themselves by discovering the best sounds from Seattle from the ?60s (O?Day, at KJR 950) and the ?90s (Collins at 107.7).?and both men are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The Seattle Top 20 Countdown is a weekly feature hosted by Collins that covers the best-selling albums from Seattle artists, based on local record store sales.

HBT: Cubs plan to spend money this winter

The Cubs stink and need to get better. The new CBA makes it really hard to get better via the draft and international signings. So it?s free agency or bust for Chicago. And they?re going into the market with their wallets open, reports Patrick Mooney of CSNChicago.com:

?We will have some financial flexibility,? Hoyer said. ?We?ve been diligent about making sure that we do have flexibility and we?re efficient going forward. We?re obviously going to be active in the free-agent market. I don?t think there?s any question about that.

Mooney notes that, after years of crappy contracts on the book, they only have $40 million guaranteed to players next year before you figure in arbitration cases, and that leaves a lot of room for Chicago to operate.

Between there being several teams with a lot of money having big needs and the fact that everyone is getting richer with TV deals, I think this winter is going to make us feel like we?re back in the early 2000s, free-agency wise. ?And I don?t mean with top-ticket signings, because the real blue chippers aren?t on the market as early or as often as they used to be. ?I?m talking about middle class free agents getting big deals. Think Pat Mears with the Pirates and stuff.

Thanks, Obama! Health Insurance Premiums Are Up $3,000! | The ...

Hey, does anyone remember how many times President Obama promised that under his plan health insurance premiums would go down by about $2500 per family? It didn?t quite work out that way. Gee, who could have predicted this?

During his first run for president, Barack Obama made one very specific promise to voters: He would cut health insurance premiums for families by $2,500, and do so in his first term.

But it turns out that family premiums have increased by more than $3,000 since Obama?s vow, according to the latest annual Kaiser Family Foundation employee health benefits survey.

Premiums for employer-provided family coverage?rose $3,065 ? 24% ? from 2008 to 2012, the Kaiser survey found. Even if you start counting in 2009, premiums have climbed $2,370.

What?s more, premiums climbed faster in Obama?s four years than they did in the previous four under President Bush, the survey data show.

Read the whole thing.

Urine and STD - STDs - MedHelp

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question.

From the title of your question, I first assumed you would be asking about exposure to a partner's urine during sex.??Urine probably transmits STDs rarely, if ever; it tends to inactivate bacteria and viruses, and there is no evidence that even overt exposure to partners' urine -- swallowing, eye contact, etc ("water sports") -- carries any STD risk.

The risk from contacting urine in a public restroom probably is even lower.??Even if there were contaminated semen, vaginal fluids, or blood, nobody has ever been known to catch any STD in a public toilet (assuming they didn't have sex while there!).??Even self-wiping with the same toilet paper, as you describe, carries no chance of catching an STD.??If there is any disease transmission risk in public toilets, it is for common colds, influenza, and other common non-STD infections, which comes from touching the sink, doorknobs, etc, not the toilet itself or genital secretions, and even this risk is zero if common sense hygiene is used (hand washing, etc).

You may have heard stories about people catching herpes or other STDs from contaminated public toilets.??These are urban myths.??They tend to persist when people don't want to admit other, obvious exposures, i.e. sexual exposure that embarrass them.

So there is no risk at all from events like you describe.??Don't worry about it.

Best wishes--??HHH, MD

? Obesity ? ? Public Health ? Sep 25, 2012

So much of our information from and interaction with the world is now mediated by computers, cell phones and tablets that health experts have been practically running themselves ragged trying to find ways to use these conduits to help people make healthier choices.

Great success stories have come out of parts of the developing world, where cell phones have been used to improve maternal and infant care and help people adhere to medication guidelines. But in the U.S., attempts using mobile and online technology to tackle basic health problems, such as obesity, have largely been underwhelming, especially among the tech-savvy younger set.

Researchers at the Obesity Society?s Annual Scientific Meeting in San Antonio, Texas., presented some of their own work on these efforts on September 23 and discussed why so many of these programs have so far failed to take hold.

With teenagers, and, increasingly, younger children, in near-constant text message contact with their friends, many researchers have figured this mode of communication might be an effective way to reach those who are overweight and obese in age groups with health-related texts. And as Susan Woolford of the University of Michigan pointed out, as she showed a video of a dance flash mob, we know that cell phone messages ?can get them to come out and dance, but can you get them to change their weight-related behavior??

She and her colleagues decided to find out. They enrolled 20 obese adolescents and sent them health-related text messages over three months. Although the kids generally accepted the program, it was unclear just how much the messages (such as reminders to drink enough water or suggestions for healthy meals) were put into practice. One of the major complaints in follow-up interviews was that the messages were flat. The kids said they ?sounded like an English person from the 1950s,? Woolford noted.

Enter Zamzee. At the U.C.L.A. School of Medicine, Steve Cole and his team have moved in an entirely different direction. They are working on an interactive health platform aimed to increase physical activity in adolescents: . Kids begin by carrying around a Zamzee, a small device that contains accelerometers to detect movement and a USB plug to upload the data into a computer. But that is only the key to unlock the whole Zamzee program. When the Zamzee is plugged in, it launches an online portal that kids can use to view their track their progress.

The program was tested in a six-month randomized controlled trial for 448 subjects, ages 11 to 14. All of them had the Zamzee stick, although the control half only got general, upbeat feedback about their activity levels from the online service. The experimental half were allowed into the full Zamzee interactive experience, which is designed to look like a social-gaming platform, with different modules that show individual activity levels, goals, rewards, and opportunities to interact with other users.

After the trial period, kids in the control group were getting about 74 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity a week. Those with full use of the program, however, were getting about 118 minutes a week, which is about a 59 percent increase, an effect that held steady throughout the six months. More impressively, kids in the experimental group who were overweight or obese at the start of the study were getting just as much physical activity as the normal weight kids. And at the end of the six months, the increased activity had positive effects on lipid and metabolic biomarkers in the experimental group.

Why was this program so much more successful than so many others for this age group? ?We worked very hard to eradicate education from this,? Cole said of the program a radical statement in itself. He also added that they tried to banish references to health and even exercise because, as they found, those topics are not desirable to teens especially those who are already overweight or obese and have negative associations with them. Cole?s take is to use positive psychology setting obtainable yet healthy individual goals in an effort to eventually translate these behavior changes from a program-mediated shift to one of intrinsic motivation all without telling the kids to go do an extra set of jumping jacks.

Adults, on the other hand, seem more willing to accept unmasked health information delivered to them via a digital platform. Michael Lin of Johns Hopkins University is currently working on a randomized controlled trial to test a tailored text-messaging system to help residents in an underserved population in Baltimore achieve healthier weights.

Half of the 120 participants received brief counseling sessions and handouts on diet and nutrition, along with a pedometer. The other half received the same materials but were also enrolled in the tailored text-messaging program, during which subjects received three to six texts a day. The messages were timed to the individuals? goals, challenges and schedules (such as a reminder sent right before a person?s usual lunchtime to avoid their favorite unhealthful food and instead choose more vegetables). One message a day contained a question (such as one about a participant?s weight or exercise that day). The system had preprepared messages that could use information from the subject?s text to formulate a personalized response. Although participants were told at the beginning that these responses were from a computer, many reported later in the study that they felt like they were communicating with someone about their progress, which helped with motivation.

Lin s final research results are not yet in, but the participation and adherence so far seem promising. Unlike the group of adolescents in Woolford?s study, these folks had a mean age in their 50s, and many of them had never used text messaging before enrolling. But after a five-minute tutorial, they were off and running. Or if not running, at least getting more physical activity than they were before, thanks to on-the-go technology.

5 Things I Outsource To Run My Transcription Business and Keep ...

Posted by Carey Suante in Business, Feature, Outsourcing, Productivity

Looking for an affordable yet professional transcription services? Check out our Transcription Services! You may also want to subscribe to my RSS feed for outsourcing tips and how transcription can help you professional and personally. Thanks for visiting!

What services do you outsource to improve your business or personal life?

Everyone outsources to others ? knowingly or unknowingly. It is impossible to live life without outsourcing.

Outsourcing has always been in existence in one form or another throughout human history. It may take the form of delegation, specialization, etc.

No man is self-sufficient. We depend on others for services and products that we are not good at producing or simply cannot produce. We also outsource producing things and services that are not economical or not of the best quality to produce by ourselves.

Outsourcing makes you:

  • more productive
  • gives you quality products or services
  • saves cost/money
  • save time

Below are some products and services I outsource to maintain my productivity and keep my sanity.

Workflow tool

For an online transcription services provider it?s vital to have an online workflow management tool. Since there are no WordPress plugins to help me with this, I turn to Scribemanager for this solution. They?ve been very responsive and caring. And their cost being minimal it?s quite a useful tool. Besides transcription customers find it easy and intuitive to use and upload their audios tool. What more can I ask for?

Dropbox

Dropbox is my favorite backup and file-sharing solution. I?ve referred so many people to this service that I now have more than 20 GB storage capacity absolutely free. Awesome. I use it to back up my more important documents, favorite photos, ebooks, songs, etc. In business, I use it to share folders with transcribers and clients to drop their recordings.

Domain

This is a given. As an online transcription provider I cannot do without a website. Hence, the need to buy a domain name. I bought most of my domains from GoDaddy. Absolute must!

Webhosting

Webhosting is another service most people outsource. I got mine outsourced to a professional webhosting service dedicated to WordPress hosting. WPWebhost has a very responsive customer care team. They?ve been really useful when setting up new blogs. As a technically challenged person they helped me set up my first blog and held my hand until I was confident enough on my own. This is extremely useful for a blogging newbie with dreams of running a successful business online.

WordPress Themes

As with all other online businesses, the looks of your website is the face of your company. Hence, it?s vital to have a professionally built website if you can afford. For others, you can purchase themes that make your website professional and customize it to your heart?s content. ?I?m using Elegant themes on this website. You get 76 WordPress themes for $39 only!

Even though I consider myself an expert in transcription there are things I need to outsource in order to successfully run by online transcription business.

It?s true that there may be free options to choose from, however they are not always the best option. As a business this website has to be professional and functional. It has to be attractive and intuitive enough for potential customers to easily navigate through it.

I also outsource to do much more than any others. I believe in doing more and better than the competition. So, in areas where I?m not an expert I?m ready to pay and have been paying for some services for the long-term.

Outsourcing also allows me to focus on the core business ? transcribing excellent transcripts. I simply cannot compromise on that. Without serving excellent transcripts I have no business being in transcription business.

And then, there are some tasks I simply cannot do or have any interest in doing them. I outsource such tasks to deliver quality service.

Outsourcing, to me, is just another word for delegation. Mastering the art of delegating and therefore, outsourcing is a must and vital skill to be successful in life as much as it is in business.

Israel war on Iran ?will eventually happen,? says Guards chief

An Israeli war on Iran "will eventually happen," but the Jewish state will be destroyed as a result, the head of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards said in comments published on Saturday.

"War will happen but it is not certain where and when," General Mohammad Ali Jafari said, according to the ISNA and Fars news agencies.

"The shameful and cancerous tumor that is Israel is seeking war against us, but it is not known when that war will happen. They now consider war as the only way to confront us, but they are so stupid that their [US)]masters should stop them," he said.

"If they begin [aggression], it will spell their destruction and will be the end of the story," he said.

"This [war] will eventually happen as the [Islamic] revolution is moving towards its goals, and they cannot tolerate this. And finally, they will impose a war situation."

The comments were the first time Iran has acknowledged the probability of open armed conflict with Israel. Previously, it had dismissed such a scenario as bluff on the part of Israel's leaders.

Tensions, though, have risen significantly in recent weeks, with Israel threatening to unleash air strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Israel believes Iran's nuclear program to be aimed at developing an atomic weapons capability that would menace its own existence, and its current status as the Middle East's sole, if undeclared, nuclear weapons power.

Iran insists its program is exclusively for peaceful, civilian ends, but it is locked in a deepening standoff with the UN nuclear watchdog and the UN Security Council over the issue.

Jafari said that, "even if they [the Israelis] act rationally, this incident will happen."

He added: "Everyone knows that they cannot confront the power of the Islamic republic.... But there is no guarantee of rationality, and it is possible that they will go crazy" and attack.

He said a war with Israel would contrast with Iran's last war, the 1980-1988 conflict with Iraq that was characterized by invasion and counter-invasion by massed ground troops.

"We should use the experience of the sacred defense [during the Iran-Iraq war] to prepare for the future war, because its nature will be very different from the previous war," he said.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. A Florida State University researcher is on a mission to explore the gene-controlling effects of addictive drugs in pursuit of new HIV treatments.

Working under the support of a $1.8 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Florida State biologist Jonathan Dennis is studying a unique ability shared between a promising class of HIV treatments known as histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDIs) and psychostimulant drugs such as cocaine.

"Current HIV treatments do just that they treat the disease by preventing the spread of HIV in the body, rather than eliminating the disease entirely," Dennis said. "I want to find out how to root out those dormant HIV cells that are evading the treatment, and I believe the gene-controlling functions shared by HDIs and psychostimulant drugs hold the key to helping us do that."

HDI and addictive drugs such as cocaine share the ability to control gene expression through changes in the chromatin structure within DNA. In the case of HDI treatment, the chromatin changes are used to wake up dormant HIV virus cells that are hiding in the body.

Dennis believes that addictive drugs do the same thing. Dennis' work will focus on identifying and understanding the overlapping gene changes that occur between these two types of substances, ultimately providing other researchers with the foundational information they need to turn HDI treatments into HIV cures.

Panthers WR Steve Smith unhappy with QB Cam Newton

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) ? Panthers receiver Steve Smith says he" lit into" Cam Newton about his actions on the sideline when the young quarterback was replaced late in the fourth quarter of Thursday night's 36-7 blowout loss to the New York Giants.

Smith said he was upset when Newton sat sulking on the bench instead of getting up to watch backup Derek Anderson and trying to learn from his own mistakes.

As a team captain and the elder statesman of the team, Smith felt something needed to be said to the 23-year old Newton about the importance of remaining positive and better handling adversity.

"I don't want to be passive and not do it because if I don't do it, who will?" Smith said. "The same way with my son, I can't expect somebody else (to do that). So yeah, I lit into him because I thought it was an opportunity for him to see and understand what was going on. This is more than about playing football. It's about becoming a man and understanding what this is."

Newton declined comment through the team's public relations staff. The team said he isn't speaking until next Wednesday.

Players have the weekend off.

Coach Ron Rivera lifted Newton in the fourth quarter against the Giants after his third interception with Carolina trailing by 26 points. Rivera said he took out Newton because the game was out of hand.

After Newton was replaced by Anderson, Smith spoke to Newton on the bench because he felt he was sulking over the impending loss.

"I said, 'Get up and learn from this,'" Smith said. "I watched DA (Anderson) and Jimmy (Clausen) observe from the sidelines the last 20-something games and try to get mental reps. This is an opportunity for you to get some mental reps. Don't just sit on the bench and sulk. I know you feel bad, but that isn't going to help us."

It's the second straight year teammates have questioned Newton's demeanor on the sideline.

Last year offensive linemen Ryan Kalil and Jordan Gross both spoke to Newton in private about the importance of not getting down during a game.

"It's about not missing an opportunity to give him some advice that maybe I didn't listen to (when I was young) or maybe nobody told me," said the 32-year-old Smith.

Smith said former Panthers wide receiver Ricky Proehl "did it to me a few times and maybe he was more subtle than I was. But you know what, if I sit back and say, 'Oh look at Cam over there sulking,' or 'look at this, or look at that' that's not going to do anything. I told him this is an opportunity for you to learn from this."

Rivera said he'll probably have a talk with Newton but wouldn't discuss what the conversation will be about.

Rivera knows Newton is an emotional player and said there's a "fine line" to walk between maintaining his burning desire to win and keeping his emotions in check.

"You look at things like, well, if something positive happens do you want to hide the emotions? And if something negative happens do we want to hide the emotions?" Rivera said.

Gross, a longtime teammate of Smith's at Utah and with the Panthers, said he doesn't have a problem with Newton's demeanor. And he didn't think anything needed to be said about Newton outside of the locker room.

"Cam wears his heart on his sleeve and you know how he's feeling based on his actions," Gross said. "He wants to win as much as anybody, and when we don't he takes it to heart. I would like any of my teammates, if they're upset about things, to talk it out with us in the locker room, and know that we're all in it together."

Smith knows he might take some criticism for calling out Newton, but doesn't care. Smith said he hopes the lesson will pay off for Newton down the road when he's retired and the quarterback is setting NFL records.

"If this is something wrong for saying that, well, I'd rather be wrong and one day during his long career he goes, 'Ah, I hated to hear that, but maybe that's what Smitty was talking about,'" Smith said.
